CPL 2026: Every franchise keeps one Breakout Player before the draft

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — The 2026 Caribbean Premier League player draft is moving into the open, and all six member teams have now filed the mandatory pre-draft retention that lets each side protect a single Breakout Player.
For the 2026 cycle, a franchise may keep only one cricketer before the draft, and that choice has to come from the Breakout Player category. The half-dozen athletes now on contract in that lane show where each organisation is placing its faith in up-and-coming talent.
They reached this point on the back of notable on-field output and reputations that are climbing quickly among followers of cricket across the region.
Youth development does not end with that lone name: when rosters are complete for 2026, each outfit will still carry three Breakout Players, a format aimed at keeping a steady flow of young Caribbean faces in the league’s showcase event.
Regulations also insist that every fixture include at least one Breakout Player in the XI, a rule designed to give those prospects repeated minutes against strong opposition.
With those individual holds settled for all six teams, the calendar now points to the draft that will fill the rest of each playing group. Those steering the competition are already promoting the session as likely to rank among the CPL’s most keenly fought and crowd-pleasing selection meetings.
The order of picks and the exact date should be disclosed over the next few weeks.
