CVM Sunrise spotlights justice projects, road safety, health care and Jamaican creativity

CVM Sunrise on June 12, 2026, featured a wide slate of Jamaican stories, including planned courthouse construction, road-safety education, student food-safety awards, paediatric heart care, university motorsport innovation and new music from Runkus.

In the headlines segment, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Delroy Chuck was reported as saying four new courthouses are to be built in St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, St. Ann and Trelawny under the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority. The programme also noted plans for public-private partnerships to support court infrastructure in Manchester, St. Catherine and at the Supreme Court in Kingston, while the St. Thomas Parish Court is expected to become operational early in the next fiscal year.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force was also said to be intensifying public education as it tries to keep road deaths below 300. As of June 11, the programme reported 124 fatalities from 112 crashes, with deaths down 27 per cent and fatal crashes down 26 per cent compared with the similar period in 2025.

World Food Safety Day activities were highlighted through the Bureau of Standards Jamaica’s school essay and poster competition. Officials said the contest drew 277 entries, including 100 posters and 177 essays, under the theme focused on preventing leptospirosis and keeping food safe after a storm. Winners received tablets and, in one case, a Dell touchscreen laptop.

Chain of Hope UK marked 30 years of work in Jamaica, where it began in 1996 as its first beneficiary country. The charity was credited with more than 70 medical missions, support for hundreds of children needing cardiac care, and a role in developing the paediatric cardiac centre at Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The show also featured UTech Motorsports Club, which restored an old Formula V car and is preparing for Formula Student competition, along with artist and producer Runkus, who discussed his album Supernova and performed from the project.
