Dane Nelson bags three winners over weekend at Century Mile

FOUR-TIME Jamaica champion jockey Dane “Warrior Chief” Nelson kept up his strong start to the international season with a riding triple at Century Mile in Canada over the weekend.
Nelson booted home two winners on Friday, May 15, 2026 aboard Lennys On Time and Velocious, then added a third on Saturday, May 16 aboard Frostedbird. All three horses are trained by Gonzalo Anderson.
Last to leave the starting gates, Lennys On Time stalked the pace from the inside rails, got an opening on the rails turning for home, and drew clear from rivals to win the Maiden Claiming contest over five furlongs. Lennys On Time, who was sent off as the 3-5 favourite, won by three lengths ahead of Mo Nacho (Jose Asencio) and Penicillium (Richard Henry) in a time of 59.2.
Velocious made one move to win the Starter Optional Claiming event over five and one half furlongs. Velocious won by 3¼ lengths as the joint 8/5 favouirte ahead of Rip Riding Away (Kimal Santo) and Novel (Keihton Natera) in a time of 1:04.4.
Frostedbird outbattled Drinking Again (Jose Asencio) by a neck to win a Claiming race over six and one half furlongs. Frostedbird completed the distance in 1:16.2.
The three wins take Nelson to seven from 15 mounts this season at Century Mile. He now leads the jockeys’ standings outright, ahead of Jose Asencio and Richard Balgobin who are tied on five winners each.
Nelson, a three-time international champion jockey, has been one of Jamaica’s most successful exports to North American racing.
