Davion Jarrett receives 2025 Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship for nursing studies
Davion Jarrett has been named a recipient of the 2025 Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship, an award aimed at preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders in Jamaica.
Jarrett, a male student nurse and first-time scholarship holder, said the support comes at a critical time. He has been facing financial difficulty, and the award will allow him to concentrate more fully on his studies.
He described the recognition as an eye-opener and said he hopes it will encourage other men who may feel nervous or hesitant about entering nursing to explore the field and commit to the profession.
Nursing was not Jarrett's original career plan. He said his aunt's manner and the way she cared for others, together with his experience looking after his ill mother, pushed him to try the profession.
The Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship honours emerging talent in healthcare and was presented during an award ceremony recognising recipients for the 2025 cycle.
