Portmore taxi driver killed in Dawkins Drive shooting

Police in St Catherine are hunting a gunman who killed a Portmore taxi operator in an execution-style attack near the Portmore Mall on Monday night.

The victim has been named as Andre McKenzie, 36, of Arura Way, Watson Grove, Portmore.

Officers say McKenzie was among a group standing along Dawkins Drive at about 9:30 p.m. when a single assailant walked up and opened fire. McKenzie was hit in the head, and the gunman escaped on foot.

Responding police found him in black clothing, lying in a pool of blood in the bus bay. He was declared dead after being taken from the scene.

No motive has been confirmed. The Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is handling the probe.
