Two dead in overnight road crashes in St. Ann and St. James, including toddler

Two people lost their lives in separate motor vehicle collisions in St. Ann and St. James from last night into this morning, among them a toddler.

Police named the dead as Benjamin Moodie of Whitehouse, St. James, and Lenward Fisher of Bellair, Runaway Bay, St. Ann.

In the St. James crash, accounts indicate that at about 9:10 p.m. a vehicle travelling on the Whitehouse main road went out of the driver’s control and struck Moodie and his mother, who were seated outdoors beside a house. Both were rushed to hospital, where the two-year-old later died.

In the second crash, at about 2:30 a.m., Fisher was at the wheel of a motor car carrying two other occupants on the Runaway Bay main road. Police report that he lost control, left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned. Those hurt were taken to hospital, where Fisher was declared dead and the remaining occupants were kept in for care.

The two fatalities bring the national road death count to 182 so far this year. Thirty-six people have died on the roads in July alone.
