Granville St James residents march after security forces shooting of teen Teejay

ST JAMES, Jamaica — People from Granville in St James marched and demonstrated after a youth was shot dead on Sunday morning during what witnesses describe as a clash involving security forces in the area.

The victim, known in the community as 'Teejay', reportedly died as officers were exiting the district at the end of an operation.

Those who took to the roads reject the shooting as lawful and have labelled the death the 'Mother's Day Massacre'.

"We want justice, the police them kill the youth," protesters shouted.

The episode arrives months after a separate security operation in Granville claimed three lives, among them four-year-old Romaine Bowman.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has begun looking into Sunday's shooting.
