Granville fatality as police sweep for wanted men ends in shooting

ST JAMES, Jamaica — A man died from police gunfire Sunday morning during an enforcement sweep through Granville in St James. Officers had moved into the community to locate persons on the wanted list, and while withdrawing they came upon him. He is accused of assailing members of the security detail before personnel discharged their weapons and he succumbed to his wounds. Authorities are still examining what happened.
The episode lands months after another violent encounter in the same Granville neighbourhood in which agents of the security apparatus are alleged to have shot dead three people, one of them a young boy. On 1 January 2026, three lives were lost in a separate security operation in Granville, among them four-year-old Romaine Bowman. That matter likewise remains under active investigation.
