INDECOM Probes Fatal Police Shooting In St Catherine Murder Case

Two men died Sunday evening in St Catherine after what police described as an armed clash during an operation connected to last year’s brutal killing of five people in Commodore district.

According to reports, officers acted on information that a person of interest was travelling in a Honda Stream motor car. About 6:05 p.m., the vehicle was intercepted along the Lluidas Vale main road and later trailed to Mountain Piece Road, where the driver was ordered to stop.

Police reported that when members of the team got out of their service unit, persons inside the Honda fired at them. The officers said they responded by shooting back.

During the reported exchange of gunfire, three men are said to have left the vehicle and run into bushes nearby. When the shooting stopped, police said two other men were discovered inside the motor car with gunshot injuries.

They were transported to Linstead Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead. Their names have not been made public.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has opened an investigation into the deadly police shooting.
