Med Forest stun Humble Lion 2-1 in Popeyes Challenge Cup at STETHS
Med Forest knocked Humble Lion out of the 2026 Popeyes Challenge Cup with a 2-1 victory at St. Elizabeth Technical High School in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, after a tense match that turned on two second-half swings.
The contest paired Humble Lion, a club pushing to return to the Jamaica Premier League, against Med Forest in the knockout competition. Humble Lion entered with several changes to their usual team, with the broadcast commentary noting that their Jamaica Football Championship semi-final second leg at Drax Hall on Saturday remained a major priority.
Med Forest took the lead in the first half through Jeffrey Robinson. Chevaughn Warren supplied a precise ball into the area, and Robinson guided the finish past goalkeeper Devaine Spencer to make it 1-0. Humble Lion had chances of their own, including efforts involving Denzel Watson, Everald Swaby and Nathaniel Henry, but goalkeeper Damion Hyatt and the Med Forest defence kept them out before the break.
Humble Lion improved after half-time and found their equaliser when Courtney Wright helped open space through midfield before Watson finished a slick attacking move. The goal shifted momentum, with Humble Lion pressing for a second and Med Forest forced into deeper defending for long spells.
Med Forest, however, regained the lead from a set-piece situation. A delivery into the box caused confusion between Spencer and defender Zidane Christie, and Christie’s touch ended in his own net. Robinson was initially close to the play, but the decisive contact came from the Humble Lion defender.
Humble Lion pushed hard in stoppage time, sending Spencer forward for a late free kick as rain and wind swept across the ground. Hyatt was booked for time-wasting, but Med Forest survived the final pressure to secure a 2-1 win and move on to the next round of the Popeyes Challenge Cup.
