Montego Bay man Tian Scott charged after Sunday return to St James robbery scene

ST JAMES, Jamaica — A 24-year-old Montego Bay man now answers to police over an armed theft at a St James building yard where, investigators say, a security guard and coworkers ended up trapped inside a container while the bandits escaped with cash and equipment.

Tian Scott is accused of robbery with aggravation and using a firearm to commit a felony. Officers contend he was one of four gunmen who hit the compound, then returned on Sunday while the area was still being processed, which led to his detention.

The Montego Bay police relate that shortly after 2:35 p.m., the on-duty guard was confronted by Scott and three other armed individuals, two of them masked. The men are alleged to have taken his wallet, which contained $45,000, and to have insisted he hand over the keys to his Toyota Corolla.

Authorities further allege Scott drove the motorcar to another part of the property, where a generator and two electric chainsaws were loaded. The guard and other employees were then reportedly sealed in the container as the group left in the stolen vehicle.

Those inside later broke out, raised the alarm, and while lawmen were still at the location Scott is said to have arrived on a motorcycle, was identified to them, and was taken into custody. He has since been formally charged, and his court date is still being finalised.
