Multi-million government service centre initiative unveiled for post offices


IDB putting up J$224 million to part-fund initiative

The Government of Jamaica has unveiled a multi-million dollar Government Service Centre Initiative, which is being piloted by Jamaica Post.
Through this initiative, Post Offices will increasingly become modern, one-stop service centres where citizens can access Government services online, especially Jamaicans who may need assistance using digital platforms. In partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Government Service Centre will first be launched at selected post offices across the island, with plans to expand even more with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA)-renovated post offices thereafter.
In support of this initiative, the IDB will provide JMD $224 million in financial support, along with technical assistance. Minister with responsibility for Efficiency, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Ambassador Audrey Marks, has disclosed that in addition, Jamaica Post has secured grant funding of approximately JMD$6.8 million from the Universal Postal Union to strengthen internet connectivity at Post Offices.
The project will start with nine Post Offices, including public WiFi access at five locations, particularly in underserved and rural communities. Minister Marks told the parliament last week that these initiatives are being rolled out to ensure that no Jamaican is left behind in this digital age.

EMS going islandwide this year
She spoke about Jamaica Post continuing to expand Express Mail Service(EMS) access across the country. During this financial year, EMS is being expanded to an additional 44 locations, increasing its national footprint to 100 post offices islandwide.
By 2027/2028, Jamaica Post aims to further strengthen this critical service by expanding EMS to 150 postal locations across Jamaica—ensuring that every constituency has access to at least two EMS service points and bringing faster, more reliable postal services closer to communities nationwide.
This means more Jamaicans and more small businesses will have reliable access to faster international shipping and global markets from closer to where they live and operate.
