Popeyes Challenge Cup Opens Nationwide as Meadforest Edge Progressive

Jamaica's newest knockout football tournament got under way on Tuesday, with three opening-round fixtures played simultaneously in different parts of the country. Kingston outfit Meadforest FC opened their inaugural Popeyes Challenge Cup campaign by beating Portland's Progressive FC 2-1.

Wednesday's card features three more ties: Petersfield FC versus Roaring River FC, Grays Inn SC against Duncan's United, and Lime Hall CC entertaining Wifi United SC.

The Lime Hall–Wifi United encounter headlines CVM's televised doubleheader at the Drax Hall Sports Complex in St. Ann. Goalkeeper Oshane Allen said his squad had used the lead-up to fine-tune their preparations and were braced for every scenario in the win-or-go-home tie.

The St. Ann-based hosts are expected to draw heavy backing at Drax Hall, and Allen added that the surrounding community has embraced the launch of the Popeyes Challenge Cup.
