Reggae Girlz rout Antigua 4-0, men set for Unity Cup semi in London
Jamaica’s senior women’s team opened the scoring floodgates again in Concacaf W Championship qualifying, handing Antigua and Barbuda a 4-0 defeat at the National Stadium over the weekend.
Khadija Shaw bagged three goals and Deneisha Blackwood added one, the latter’s 11th in national colours. Shaw’s tally for Jamaica now stands at 65 from 47 caps, with seven hat-tricks among those goals. She has found the net in each of the last three qualifiers, following outings against Dominica and Nicaragua.
The side sits first in the group on nine points. On Saturday, 18 April, Jamaica meet Guyana; either a win or a draw will book a place in the 2026 Concacaf W Championship tournament scheduled for November, with the host venues still to be confirmed. On the same date Nicaragua play Dominica in the other group fixture. Through three rounds Jamaica have scored 25 times, conceded twice, and carry a plus-23 goal difference. The programme has previously seen Jamaica collect bronze in 2018 and again in 2022.
Tickets for the Guyana match, set for 7:00 p.m. at the National Stadium, are being sold online; grandstand wing seats are priced at $2,000 and regular grandstand seats at $5,000, with a discount advertised for Visa card purchases.
On the men’s side, the senior team will take part in the Unity Cup in London from 26 to 30 May. Jamaica face India on 27 May at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic. The tournament concludes on 30 May with the third-place match and the final. In the opposite semi-final Nigeria meet Zimbabwe, so Jamaica’s opponent on 30 May will be one of those two nations if the team advances. The last time Jamaica lifted silverware was 27 May 2016, when Caribbean Cup winners Jamaica defeated Copa América holders Chile 2-1 in Viña del Mar; Clayton Donaldson and Joel Grant scored at Estadio Sausalito while Chile were ranked inside the world’s top five. Jamaica and India have not met since 2002, when they played twice in one year—Jamaica won the opener 3-0 and the return ended 0-0. Organisers are expected to release further ticketing details for the London event in due course.
