Concern grew after a former policeman complained of back pain and then went silent, with checks at his Spanish Town home later revealing him unresponsive inside his kitchen.
Dead is Edris Faquaharson of Eltham Park, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Reports are that on April 26, the retiree contacted a friend complaining of pains in his back. He was not seen again, and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.
Checks were made at his home last night, where the house was found well-lit but securely locked, raising further concern.
The police were summoned, and entry was forced into the dwelling. Faquaharson was found unresponsive in the kitchen.
He was a former sergeant who last served in the St Andrew North Police Division before his recent retirement.
The scene was processed and the body removed. He was later officially pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination is to be conducted to determine the cause of death as the Spanish Town police continue their investigations.
