Dejanae Oakley began her professional career in winning fashion on Friday, taking the women's 400m at the PreFontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Oakley, who recently captured the NCAA outdoor 400m title at the same venue, stopped the clock at 49.64 seconds.

She finished ahead of American Aaliya Butler, who ran 49.97 for second, while Jamaica's national champion Stacey-Ann Williams ended third in 50.12. The Wanda Diamond League meeting continues on Saturday, with 13 more Jamaicans down to appear on the main programme, including sprinters Tina and Tia Clayton, Shericka Jackson and Bryan Levell, sprint hurdlers Ackera Nugent, Danielle Williams and Demario Prince, and shot putter Rajindra Campbell.
