Delroy Chuck Says Jamaicans Should Follow Police Instructions During Arrests

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck is calling on Jamaicans to follow lawful instructions from the police.
Chuck said the authorities are permitted to apply reasonable force when taking suspects into custody, and in the most serious circumstances that can include deadly force. He said the law also provides for force to be used where it is needed to prevent a suspect from escaping.
The minister cautioned the public not to fight against arrest or get in the way of officers carrying out their work. He said anyone who believes police acted improperly should pursue the matter in court instead of clashing with officers.
Chuck’s remarks come as public concern continues over deadly police shootings, among them the killing of Latoya “Buju” Bulgin, now being probed by the Independent Commission of Investigations.
