They had only just been photographed together at Mother's Day weekend programmes in Washington, D.C.; this roadside episode reportedly stretched several minutes, with both visibly at odds.

Onlookers told journalists Cardi seemed deeply rattled, while Diggs showed little outward strain; handlers moved in as more people gathered.

The clash follows closely on images of the pair openly warm at a fundraiser, reviving talk of an on-and-off relationship.
