Savanna-la-Mar detectives probe fatal shooting of Shawana Thompson in Negril home

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Officers from the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station say they are examining every available lead in the fatal shooting of a woman discovered dead from gunfire inside her residence on Tulip Lane in Negril.

The victim has been named as Shawana Thompson, also called “Brains.”

Police accounts state that Thompson was last observed on Friday at the Negril Police Station and at the Savanna-la-Mar Parish Court, where she was said to be dealing with paperwork aimed at obtaining bail for a man who has faced murder charges since September of last year.

Investigators also said that around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, two men arrived at her address on motorcycles and discharged firearms at the property. Thompson was said to have been struck in the head.

On Saturday morning, a worried relative called at the house after noticing she had not been around. That relative found Thompson on the floor of the dwelling in a pool of blood, with injuries consistent with gunshots to the head.

Officers were called to the scene, which they documented before the body was taken to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Detectives say they are pressing ahead with the inquiry to determine why Thompson was targeted and to bring those involved in the shooting to justice.
