A fare dispute involving a taxi driver and a passenger in Mandeville, Manchester, ended in gunfire last evening, leaving two people dead.
The victims are Deneekia Pounall, 24, of Heartease District, and Sadefa Henry, 21, a delivery man of Marvel Close, Greenvale. Both lived in Manchester.
Police accounts indicate that around 7:30 pm a taxi with Pounall and Henry aboard pulled over so another passenger could get out. The driver then asked that passenger for payment. The passenger declined and allegedly started threatening the driver.
After what were described as explosions, the driver left the scene. Once he halted somewhere safer, it became clear that Pounall and Henry had been shot. Officers were called and the injured pair were taken for medical care. Pounall was declared dead on arrival at hospital. Henry died this morning while receiving treatment.
