Don Kuttz Targets Career Breakthrough With Motivational Single Tru Blva

3 min read

Rising dancehall talent Don Kuttz is betting that Tru Blva, his newest single, will mark the turning point that takes his career to another tier.

The uplifting record is already picking up spins on Jamaican radio and inclusion on mixtapes. Its core themes — confidence in oneself, staying the course, and refusing to quit — speak directly to youths who are looking for encouragement as they navigate hard times.

Christopher Mendez, who records under the name Don Kuttz, wrote the track himself. He said the idea behind Tru Blva was to push young people to trust their own ability and go after what they want.

"The Tru Blva song was inspired by the desire to encourage young people to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams," he said. "The song reminds listeners that while there will always be obstacles along the journey, perseverance and faith can help them overcome any challenge."

Rather than leaning into scandal or clash culture, the release points toward a brighter lane within modern dancehall, and early feedback suggests audiences are responding well.

Off stage, Don Kuttz has been building ties with independent imprint 1X Music Group, though he has not yet inked a formal deal with the label. Striva 1X, the company’s chief executive, manages him and has been steering both his artistic growth and wider career planning.

Mendez credits grit and personal development for bringing him to this stage. He portrays himself as a grounded, hungry young performer whose formative years were largely about figuring out who he is.

"It wasn’t always easy, and I faced many challenges while trying to find my path," he said. "However, I never gave up, and once I found music, I knew it was my calling."

That same resolve shapes how he treats the studio. He refuses to box himself into a single sound, instead pulling from different influences as he shapes a style that mirrors his character and lived experience.

"I am a constantly evolving individual," he said. "I’m always striving to improve myself and reach new heights."

Chart numbers alone do not drive him, he added. What matters most is leaving something durable for his relatives and adding value to Jamaica’s cultural landscape.

"I want to make them proud through my achievements," he explained. "Music is such a big part of who I am that I would still find a way to keep singing and expressing myself creatively."

That hunger is already showing in his output. Don Kuttz confirmed he is in the studio on a forthcoming EP and has finished multiple tracks earmarked for the set.

"Fans can definitely look forward to an EP in the near future," he said.

Tru Blva follows earlier releases that helped put his name in circulation, including Drive In and Pain.

"Drive In is one of my most recognized songs," he said. "But Pain is very special to me because it connects deeply with people and reflects real-life experiences that many can relate to."

As Tru Blva keeps spreading across the island, Don Kuttz wants its call for resilience to land with listeners and to strengthen his place among dancehall’s emerging names.

Still early in his professional run, the path forward is far from guaranteed. Yet his latest offering signals he intends to live by the very lesson the record carries: trust yourself, press on, and keep reaching.
