Donovan Duckie resigns as Phoenix Chapelton Maroons head coach

Donovan Duckie, one of Jamaica’s seasoned football coaches, has left his role as head coach of Phoenix Chapelton Maroons, with the resignation taking effect right away.

Duckie had been in charge of the Clarendon-based Jamaica Premier League club from the opening of the previous season. He submitted his resignation to club president Kaycia Butler on Thursday.

In the letter to Butler, Duckie wrote: "Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation as head coach of the Chapelton Maroons effective immediately, June 11 2026."

He also thanked the organisation for the period he spent at the club. "I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve the club," Duckie said. "It has been an honour to work with the players, staff and management during my time as the head coach."

Duckie said he valued what came with the job, including the moments and challenges he shared with the team. He indicated that leaving was difficult, but said he believed the timing was appropriate.

"The decision was not an easy one, but after careful consideration I believe it is right to step away for my personal and professional growth. I remain thankful for the support and trust placed in me during with time with the organisation," Duckie stated.

Chapelton Maroons technical director Craig Butler, when reached for comment, declined to comment.

The Maroons ended the 2025-26 JPL campaign in eighth place on 49 points.
