Douglas and Card lead Jamaica's 47-athlete World U20 squad for Eugene

National junior record holders Shanoya Douglas and Gary Card will head Jamaica's 47-athlete contingent at the World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from August 5 to 9. The squad includes three current world leaders heading into the meet.

Douglas tops the World Under-20 rankings in both the women's 100 metres (10.98 seconds) and 200 metres (22.11) and is entered in both events. The 19-year-old took bronze in the 200 metres at the 2024 championships in Lima, Peru, and was later upgraded to silver after British Virgin Islands athlete Adijah Hodge, the original winner, was disqualified for a doping violation.

Tiana Marshall, ranked fourth in the women's 100 metres hurdles with 12.98 seconds, is also among the 18 women selected.

On the men's side, Card holds the national junior 100 metres record at 9.93 seconds and leads the world under-20 rankings in that event. His 200 metres personal best of 20.28 seconds places him fourth globally, and he is entered for the sprint double in Eugene.

Joseph Salmon, the World Under-20 discus leader with a throw of 67.55 metres, is among the 29 men on the team. The men's roster also features United States-based high jumper David Brown, who studies at Rowan University in New Jersey.

Jamaica aims to better its five-medal haul from Lima in 2024 — four gold and one silver — when the country finished fourth overall. President Keith Wellington will serve as team leader, with David Riley as technical leader.
