DPP orders murder charge for Constable Andrew Wilson in Lotoya Bulgin killing
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that police constable Andrew Wilson face a murder charge over the killing of 45-year-old Lotoya 'Buju' Bulgin in Granville, St James, last month.
The decision was handed down on Friday, May 29. Bulgin's death triggered strong public anger and heated protests, while renewing pressure for body-worn cameras to be quickly introduced for dangerous police assignments.
Video from CCTV, shared widely online, shows a police officer shooting at a vehicle during a May 17 protest. Bulgin was behind the wheel. The officer was subsequently suspended.
