Jamaica Davis Cup Team Drops To Group Four After Costa Rica Defeat

1 min read

Jamaica's Davis Cup squad is returning from Costa Rica after a rough outing in the Americas Group Three qualifiers, where the team failed to register a victory and was demoted to Group Four.

The final tie brought a 2-0 loss against host nation Costa Rica, completing Jamaica's slide. That result also stood as Costa Rica's lone success in the competition, although the hosts were relegated as well.

In the first singles match, Daniel Azar pushed Paulo Pocasangre through more than two hours of tennis before losing in straight sets. Nicholas Gore followed in the second singles rubber but was beaten 4-6, 2-6 by Christian Winstead in one hour and 20 minutes. The doubles match was left unplayed.

Jamaica closed the week with five defeats from five ties. The team will compete in Group Four when Davis Cup Americas qualifying continues.
