NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Unveils Click-to-Cancel Rules Against Subscription Traps

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has rolled out a Click-to-Cancel measure designed to shield shoppers from hard-to-quit subscriptions and charges that are not disclosed at the outset.

Under the policy, firms must allow customers to end a subscription with the same ease used to start one. Businesses that impose cumbersome exit steps risk financial penalties.

City authorities are also advancing tighter standards that would oblige sellers to present the complete cost of goods and services from the start, covering all compulsory fees.

Officials project the package could leave New York residents better off by as much as US$162.5 million a year. The rules are due to begin on October 1.
