Jamaican Olympian Janelle Bromfield and American sprint champion Noah Lyles have married, capping one of the week’s most talked-about stories. The couple exchanged vows last week at a melanin-themed ceremony held in the conservatory at Blackberry Ridge in Trenton, Georgia. Sports Minister Olivia Grange was among those who posted online congratulations to the newlyweds.

On Easter Sunday, the 2026 Love and Harmony Cruise became a place of worship as former dancehall queen Marion Hall, widely known as Lady Saw, preached a resurrection sermon that organisers said turned the deck into a sanctuary. Hall told the Jamaica Star that God had given her a message for the cruise and that delivering it was her duty. She said she baptized five people during the event, and that one of them was filled with the Holy Ghost.

In St. Thomas, a 90-year-old man died after falling through a hole on the Easington bridge in Albion on Good Friday. Raphael Bryan was on his usual route across the structure when he plunged through the opening. Authorities have said the bridge had been closed to the public for at least four months, but the Star reported that it remained accessible. Bryan was not the first person to fall through the gap: in October 2025, Cephas Johnson suffered the same accident and survived.

Although Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz will not compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the country will still have a presence on the global stage. Jamaican match official Oshane Nation has been chosen to work at the tournament and will be one of seven referees from the CONCACAF region assigned to the event.

In the week’s Dear Pastor column, a 22-year-old shop worker wrote that she had been having a sexual relationship with her married boss, the store owner and father of two. She said he pays her poorly for regular work but gives her extra money and funds evening classes. A coworker recently discovered them, and she fears his partner will learn of the affair and that she will lose those benefits. She asked him to end his other relationship, but he refused, citing his children, while insisting she remain employed. The columnist advised her to leave the situation immediately and find a healthier relationship.
