Police have arrested and charged the Jamaica College learner shown in widely shared footage repeatedly hitting a fellow pupil, while another youth in the clip appeared to use a belt, the force’s leadership said on Friday. Earlier in the week the school issued a written account stating the injured boy had acknowledged, in his own hand, that about a fortnight before the confrontation he had removed belongings that were not his from companions he had been spending time with. Administrators said those involved would appear before a disciplinary panel.

On Monday afternoon, 13-year-old Clan Doyle, who attended Seaforth High School in St Thomas, was knifed in the stomach during a confrontation with several boys at the Morant Bay transport centre shortly before a quarter to two, investigators reported. He was rushed for care but died while doctors were treating him. Relatives told reporters he had been repeatedly picked on by the same set of boys over gossip circulating about him. Lawmen said three students are now being held in connection with the case.

Track star Noah Lyles and his wife Janelle drew heavy social-media commentary after they released additional wedding-day material, including a “first look” clip of the moment he first saw her in her dress. Viewers faulted his subdued audible reaction, with some posts calling on her to end the union. Janelle answered critics by insisting his response suited her needs. She said, “So, in that moment, that reaction that I got from Noah is exactly what I needed. Because if he did not do that, I would probably be … shut up that whole wedding because I was processing so much disappoint disappointment.”

Veteran deejay Frankie Sly told the Star he had first hoped to steer clear of the tension between Buju Banton and Wayne Wonder, which grew out of competing claims over who wrote what on Banton’s 1993 recording “Murderer.” He eventually channelled his stance into a new track titled “Dirty Heart,” stressing the lyrics speak to betrayal among friends generally, even though listeners link it clearly to Banton. Sly said “Murderer” was a joint effort among them as friends and it is sad when a friend get rich and switch.

Separately, a letter writer in the Dear Pastor column, headlined “Bondage Sex Blew My Mind,” described being 20 years old and content with a 33-year-old partner who, six months earlier, had left her prior relationship for him. Since their bond turned sexual, she wrote, she learned he enjoys light restraint during intimacy and found she enjoys it too, recalling an episode when he secured her limbs to the bed until they both drifted off before everything was loosened. Her worry, she explained, is that his former girlfriend is attempting to return to his life, which she is unwilling to allow.
