NWA tells road users to follow newly activated Fairfield traffic signals

ST JAMES, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is calling on both drivers and pedestrians to follow the new traffic lights now running at the Fairfield Road and Megabyte Drive junction.
The signal system went live Thursday morning when the agency switched it on, adding what officials say is stronger safety support along that section of roadway.
“Pedestrians and motorists are encouraged to obey the traffic signals,” Janel Ricketts, the NWA’s Community Relations Officer for the Western Region, told Observer Online after the commissioning exercise.
Ricketts also made a direct appeal to people on foot to use the crossing arrangement built into the intersection.
“For pedestrians, there is a pedestrian-actuated signal there that will help to make crossing of this corridor easier, so we encourage persons to cross at the lights,” she said.
“They’ll first engage the signal, press the signal on the traffic light…and then wait until the walk signal is visible, then make their way across,” she added.
The installation was delivered through a partnership between Barnett Tech Park Limited and the NWA, with both entities targeting safer travel for motorists and others moving through the area.
“The project was completed at a cost of $18.4 million and is aimed at improving safety at this critical intersection,” Ricketts said.
Barnett Tech Park hosts several business process outsourcing (BPO) operations, along with other commercial activity.
