NWC prioritises St Mary leak repairs affecting schools and communities

National Water Commission customers in St Mary are being told that reported leaks will be dealt with as quickly as the utility can manage, while the largest trouble spots and key public services are placed first.
Everton Davis, Distribution Team Leader for NWC St Mary, gave the update on Tuesday, May 19, during a meeting of the Infrastructure and Traffic Management Committee of the St Mary Municipal Corporation. He outlined timelines for several leaks that residents had taken to their councillors.
Davis said a serious break in the square at Robin's Bay was behind the loss of water to residents there, and that a crew was scheduled to be in the community on May 20 to carry out repairs. He also reported that in Luna, in the Temple Hall area, the school had no water and a team had been sent on May 19 to address that issue.
Speaking with JIS News, Davis said NWC aims to repair every customer leak promptly, but the agency has to rank jobs by urgency. He explained that one report may take some time, while another is handled the same day or the following day, depending on the scale of the impact.
According to Davis, the number of customers affected is considered, along with whether schools, police stations, hospitals or health centres are without service.
He also said work continues on the Mason Hall project. Meanwhile, Levan Freeman, councillor for the Belfield Division, reported that residents there were pleased to be getting a steady supply of piped water from the NWC.
