Deadly Highway 2000 Fire Crash: Police are investigating a possible connection between a deadly fiery crash on Highway 2000 in Manchester and a multimillion-dollar break-in at a business in Red Bank, near Junction, St Elizabeth.
Investigators believe the Toyota Noah that burst into flames after crashing on the Williamsfield section of the highway early Saturday morning was being used as the getaway vehicle by thieves.
According to police, the business was broken into and the suspects reportedly made off with approximately $1.5 million in cash, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, phone cards valued at $2.5 million, a cash register, and other valuables.
Police sources say a highway patrol team attempted to stop the Toyota Noah while it was travelling eastbound on the Williamsfield Highway. However, the driver allegedly ignored the police signal to stop, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed.
The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames, killing both occupants. Their bodies were burned beyond recognition, and investigators are working to confirm their identities.
Detectives in Manchester and St Elizabeth are now piecing together the sequence of events as they continue to investigate whether the crash is directly linked to the multimillion-dollar burglary.
