Tropical wave approaches Jamaica as fair night skies give way to inland showers
A tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean is producing only isolated cloud cover, with little shower or thunderstorm activity tied to the system. The disturbance is drifting west and is expected to pass just south of Jamaica on Tuesday morning.
Tonight, fair skies are forecast across the island. Temperatures should fall to about 25 degrees Celsius in Kingston and Montego Bay, with winds near 10 knots on both coasts.
Sunday morning should open with generally sunny conditions nationwide. By the afternoon, skies turn partly cloudy, with a few showers expected mainly over inland areas and western parishes. Highs are projected at 34 degrees Celsius in Kingston and 33 degrees Celsius in Montego Bay.
The southeast should stay generally sunny and breezy, with afternoon cloud build-up possible in the southwest around Santa Cruz, Black River, and Savanna-la-Mar. Lucea, Montego Bay, and Falmouth may see partly cloudy afternoon skies, and similar conditions are likely inland. One or two showers are possible around Brown's Town and Green Hill, while Duncans could see afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Mariners face several days of brisk conditions. Monday may bring isolated showers, but strong winds remain the main concern through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Along the north coast on Sunday, easterly winds of 15 to 20 knots are expected, with seas between one and a half and two metres. A small craft warning is in effect for inshore waters on the south coast, where winds may reach 25 knots and seas about two and a half metres. A small craft warning also applies to offshore areas.
