Faulkland FC open JFF Tier 2 playoffs with 3-0 win at Jarrett Park
Faulkland FC began their bid to return to Jamaica's top-flight football with a 3-0 victory over Russia in the JFF Tier 2 playoffs at Jarrett Park on Wednesday.
Donnell Briscoe put Faulkland ahead in the 22nd minute, giving the former Jamaica Premier League contenders control of the Group D opener. Shanoi Anderson later doubled the advantage before returning eight minutes from full time to complete his brace and seal the result.
The Westmoreland champions felt they had chances to win by a wider margin, while still crediting Russia for providing resistance. Faulkland's camp said the contest was competitive, but believed the team could have added four or five more goals.
Russia's camp pointed to poor preparation as a major reason for the defeat. With about five matches remaining, the losing side said the focus would now be on regrouping, preparing better and trying to rebound in the next fixtures.
In another Group D match, Lucea United defeated Coopers Pen 2-1 at Rusea's High. Group A action at the Cedar Grove Sports Complex ended with Cedar Grove and York United drawing 0-0.
In Group B, Portlanders were beaten 2-0 by Axum at Lynch Park in Buff Bay. Group C saw Mile Gully defeat Vineyard 2-0 at the Mile Gully Community Centre.
