Flash Flood Watch in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of southern parishes
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of southern parishes.
Parishes under Flood Watch are Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and Kingston and St. Andrew.
The Met Office says the flash food watch is in effect immediately until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10.
An active tropical wave is moving across Jamaica and is interacting with an upper-level trough.
This will produce unstable weather conditions until late Wednesday afternoon.
The forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to affect the island, especially across southern parishes throughout the period.
Additionally, strong, gusty winds are expected, especially across southern coastal areas and offshore the south coast.
Fishers and other marine interests, especially on the south coast, should exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms, and strong, gusty winds.
A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
The Meteorological Service says it will continue to monitor this system.
