Gary Card delivered one of the standout sprint performances of the championships when he captured gold in the Men’s 100m in 10.34 seconds, breaking a 36-year-old Penn Relays record.
University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) student athletes delivered another impressive showing at the 130th staging of the Penn Relays, held April 23–25 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, USA, highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the Men’s 100m by Gary Card.
UTech Knight Gary Card delivered one of the standout sprint performances of the championships when he captured gold in the Men’s 100m in 10.34 seconds, breaking a 36-year-old Penn Relays record and reaffirming UTech, Jamaica’s reputation as one of the region’s leading track and field programmes.
Competing against elite international opposition, the UTech Knights entered four events and advanced to three finals. In addition to Card’s first-place finish in the Men’s 100m, the team secured second place in the Men’s 4x100m relay in 40.25 seconds and ninth place in the Women’s 4x400m relay in 3:41.99.
The UTech Knights men’s 4x100m relay team featured Justin Maynard, Gary Card, De’Jhaun Strachan, Dominic Williams, Daniel Ellis and Jeevan Newby, while the men’s 4x200m relay squad included Gary Card, team captain Emil Gordon, De’Jhaun Strachan, Dominic Williams and Justin Maynard.
