St Mary Woman Held Over Alleged Arson at Georgia Business Compound

ST MARY, Jamaica - Police have detained a 59-year-old woman after she was accused of starting a fire that damaged two office buildings, a pickup truck and a motor car at the Surrey and Aggregate compound in Georgia, St Mary.

Investigators said the episode unfolded about 2:00 pm Sunday. A caretaker told police the woman was behaving loudly and would not leave the property, even after several requests. He went to the Annotto Bay police to make a report, and when he came back, both buildings were already burning.

Personnel from the Annotto Bay police and fire station went to the location. The woman was taken into custody while the probe began.
