Two St Ann men deported from St Kitts charged over 2023 fatal shooting

Two men from Ocho Rios, St Ann, who police say left Jamaica for St Kitts and Nevis after a deadly shooting, have been deported and charged in connection with the 2023 attack.

The accused are 31-year-old Chevon Brown, otherwise called “Bala”, a lifeguard, and 37-year-old Kemar Matthews, also known as “Bibi”. Both men are from Ocho Rios.

The case relates to the killing of 20-year-old Kemar Lindman of St Thomas, St Ann, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

According to the St Ann’s Bay police, Lindman and a friend were at home about 2:30 a.m. when armed men allegedly entered the house by force and opened fire. Both men were shot before the attackers escaped on foot.

Police were called to the scene, and the injured men were taken to hospital. Lindman was pronounced dead, while the other man received treatment and was later released.

Investigators later determined that the two suspects had gone to St Kitts and Nevis. Brown and Matthews were deported to Jamaica on Thursday, May 21, and taken into custody.

They have since been charged with murder, wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and burglary.

A court date is being finalised.
