Mark Golding Urges Holness to Remove Andrew Wheatley After Integrity Commission Report

1 min read

Opposition Leader Mark Golding has pressed Prime Minister Andrew Holness to dismiss Dr Andrew Wheatley from Cabinet without delay, after lawmakers received an Integrity Commission investigation report that calls for the minister to face criminal prosecution.

In a written statement, Golding said Holness must move at once. "Prime Minister Holness must act immediately. The integrity of our public institutions and the trust of the Jamaican people demand nothing less," he said.

Golding also challenged Wheatley's return to Cabinet following the 2025 General Election, arguing that warning signs were already evident. He described that appointment as a "grave misjudgment."

The report states that the Director of Corruption Prosecution concluded Wheatley should be charged on four counts. These include Illicit Enrichment, Knowingly Making False Statements in Statutory Declarations, and Failing to Provide Information to the Integrity Commission.

Investigators found that between 2013 and 2022, Wheatley held assets worth roughly J$164 million more than his lawful income could account for. When asked to explain the gap, he did not provide an acceptable response.
