Jamaica Clears 16% PPV Fare Rise for June and July
Government has given public passenger vehicle operators approval for a 16% increase in fares, settling an application that had been before the authorities from April 2024.
The new rates will come in across two months. Fares will first move up by 8% in June, followed by another 8% in July.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said the staged roll-out was selected to help limit the inflation pressure commuters could face if the full increase came at once. He said the move seeks to recognise the cost concerns of operators while also protecting passengers.
