Officer in Granville fatal shooting gets $1M bail as Dean Peart dies at 77

Constable Andrew Wilson, facing charges over the May 17 fatal shooting of Latoya "Buju" Bulgin in Granville, St. James, appeared in the St. James Circuit Court on Monday and was granted fresh bail of $1 million.

Separately, former member of parliament and government minister Dean Peart died on Sunday at 77 after a prolonged illness. Peart held public office for more than two decades before leaving politics in 2011.

Caribbean leaders have backed Guyana’s ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett as the region’s nominee for United Nations secretary-general. If chosen, she would be the organisation’s tenth secretary-general.
