Jamaica Football Federation president Michael Ricketts has ended months of public guessing by stating that Marseille forward Mason Greenwood can pull on national colours as soon as the final CONCACAF World Cup qualifying window opens in September.

On SportsMax Zone, in-house analyst Lijay Williams said he still opposes the move on moral grounds, stressing that he does not back any man who harms women, yet he accepts that selectors, not pundits, decide rosters. He will keep supporting Jamaica while remaining uneasy about Greenwood’s inclusion.

Williams nonetheless described the capture as the biggest Jamaica has engineered, arguing the island has never before fielded a forward of comparable global stature. He contrasted Greenwood with past recruits who impressed in England’s top flight, saying Greenwood belongs among the elite scorers in the sport and had shared the French Ligue 1 scoring lead. Had off-field events not derailed his Manchester United career, Williams added, England would likely still claim him.

Pressed on whether marriage and parenthood involving the woman at the centre of earlier allegations should close the debate, Williams refused to judge private reconciliation, citing only material that became public. He repeated discomfort that Jamaica seized the opening while England keeps its distance, yet conceded that match-goers and street chatter suggest broad local acceptance.

Williams closed on tactics: Greenwood’s two-footed finishing and line-wide movement, he said, plainly strengthen a squad chasing a World Cup ticket.
