Hayley Matthews Urges More Caribbean Youth Cricket Investment After World Cup Exit
West Indies Women captain Hayley Matthews says the Caribbean must do more to develop young cricketers after the team's departure from the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
The regional side was eliminated on Tuesday when defending champions Australia secured an eight-wicket win in the semi-final. Matthews said Australia were outstanding, but added that the result also pointed to a broader concern across the region: limited funding and too few organised development programmes for emerging players.
She said the defeat should be taken as a warning, noting that West Indies will keep facing a difficult task against the leading teams in world cricket unless more resources are committed to building regional talent.
