PORTLAND, Jamaica :17 Haitians Detained — Police are investigating the arrival of 17 Haitian nationals who were discovered in the Passley Gardens area of Port Antonio, Portland, on Monday morning.

Reports indicate that the group was spotted sometime after 6:00 a.m., prompting residents to alert the authorities. The individuals were subsequently taken into police custody and transported to the Port Antonio Police Station, where they are undergoing health assessments and immigration processing.

The group consists of 10 adult males, four adult females, and three children.

The circumstances surrounding their arrival remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine how the group entered the island.

Jamaica has seen several similar incidents in recent years involving Haitian migrants arriving by sea as they seek refuge or opportunities elsewhere in the region.

Police have not yet disclosed whether any vessel linked to the group has been located. Investigations continue.
