WESTMORELAND, Jamaica: Fatal Negril Robbery and Shooting – A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting and robbery at a business establishment in Negril that left one man dead and a visiting tourist injured.

The accused, Joshua Vaz, otherwise known as ‘Josh’, of Negril, was charged on Friday with murder, wounding with intent, robbery with aggravation, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Nashon McGibbon, otherwise known as ‘Bubbanash’, a businessman of Tigress Lane, Negril, Westmoreland.

According to investigators from the Savanna-la-Mar Criminal Investigation Branch, McGibbon was at his business establishment around 8:40 p.m. on Friday, May 22, when he was allegedly attacked by Vaz and another man.

Police reports indicate that the assailants opened fire, hitting McGibbon multiple times. He reportedly attempted to escape but was chased by the gunmen, who continued shooting at him.

The attackers allegedly robbed him of a bag containing a laptop and an undisclosed sum of money before fleeing the scene.

During the incident, another man, who was visiting the island, was also shot and wounded in the left shoulder.

Both injured men were taken to hospital after police were alerted. McGibbon later succumbed to his injuries, while the other victim was treated.

Vaz was arrested during a police operation in Whitehall, Negril, on May 26. Following an identification parade, he was positively identified and formally charged on June 5.

His court date is currently being finalised.
