Gov’t reaffirms Jamaica’s commitment to practical international cooperation on transnational crime

The Government has reinforced the country’s commitment to practical transnational cooperation in areas such as information sharing, border management, institutional capacity building and the protection of critical infrastructure, including cyber.

The recommitment was made during the United States Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, held in Washington D.C., on Thursday.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, led Jamaica’s delegation to the Ministerial meeting, where she and international counterparts from 67 countries exchanged perspectives on politically motivated violence, terrorism and emerging transnational security threats.

Mrs. Johnson Smith noted that it was important that Jamaica remained informed of evolving security developments in the hemisphere and ensured that the nation’s perspectives were included in high-level discussions.

The Foreign Affairs Minister also underscored the need for practical, balanced and coordinated approaches in the fight against transnational crime.
