Hanover Residents Get Document Recovery Help

Hundreds of residents in Western Hanover are another step closer to restoring their ways of life following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, which destroyed many homes, taking with it valuable property, including important documents.

Instead of travelling to government offices across the parish – residents had the opportunity to meet with multiple agencies at one location.

On Thursday, Member of Parliament Heatha Miller-Bennet partnered with several government agencies to host a major hurricane recovery fair at the Lucea United Church – bringing essential services directly to one of the hardest-hit communities on the island.

The fair centred on one of the most overlooked consequences of hurricane damage, the loss or destruction of personal, essential documents.

Residents met with agency representatives and began the process of recovering critical records, including birth and marriage certificates, passports, NIS cards, and land ownership documents.

MP Miller-Bennett said the decision to bring these services into the community was a deliberate effort to reduce the burden on people still navigating the aftermath of a natural disaster.
