Health ministry awards Skymar $15 million to refurbish National Chest Hospital blood centre

The blood collection facility at the National Chest Hospital in Kingston is slated for renovation and enhancement after the Ministry of Health on Friday executed a $15 million agreement with Skymar Building Construction and maintenance limited.

Ministry leaders cast the scheme as a component of broader work to harden Jamaica’s network of donor sites and ensure dependable, screened blood reaches communities from end to end of the island.

At the contract event, State Minister for Health Krystal Lee stated that the national blood transfusion service is leading the push and that one goal is to enlarge participation in Jamaica’s voluntary donor scheme.

She also remarked that refurbishing the Kingston hub shows sharpened commitment and a deliberate emphasis on strengthening how the nation collects blood.
