JTA and BITU meet today on back pay for unionized support staff
The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) and the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) are slated to meet today on sums still owed to several groups of workers on the teachers' body's staff.
BITU represents security, ancillary, accounting and clerical employees at the JTA.
Yesterday, a number of those workers took industrial action to highlight their concern over unpaid amounts.
BITU Vice-President Rudolph Thomas told IRIE FM News that, after Monday's protest, JTA management called today's session for 10:00 a.m.
He said the sides are expected to take up negotiations for the 2024 to 2026 contract period, among other matters.
Thomas said he is hopeful management will give the union a firm timeline for settling the issues affecting the workers.
