NIRA document recovery drive tops 47,000 applications after Hurricane Melissa

More than 47,000 applications have been handled through the National Identification and Registration Authority’s document replacement effort for people who lost key records during Hurricane Melissa.
Audrey Marks, Minister with Responsibility for Efficiency, Innovation and Digital Transformation, reported the figures while speaking in the Sectoral Debate. She said NIRA’s national post-Hurricane Melissa Document Recovery Programme has now become a standing service to support people affected by disasters and other emergencies.
Marks also pointed to a Negril, Westmoreland resident whose personal papers, including a pension book, were lost in a recent fire.
