Police discourage roadblocks in Troy

KINGSTON, Jamaica  —  Commanding Officer for the Trelawny Division, Superintendent Velonique Campbell, is imploring residents of Troy in the parish to desist from blocking the roads following Thursday’s protest over a man who they say was arrested in relation to a fatal mobbing three days ago following the gruesome murder of 10-year-old Shani Coke.

“Yesterday, we had persons blocking the road and causing further instability. Please, I am imploring, desist from blocking the road and bringing further instability to your community,” she said in a statement reaching the Observer Online.

The residents also protested over Coke’s death. The child’s partially nude body was found with her throat slashed in bushes on Tuesday.

Police said following the discovery of the child’s body, there was a mob attack on a father and son in the community.

On Friday, the management team of the Trelawny division supported by the Community Safety and Security (CSS) headquarters visited the family of the deceased to offer support.

“We offered our deepest condolences and support. We understand that this is a difficult time; not only for family members and residents, but, for the entire country. We are enlisting the support of residents for law and order to be maintained in the community,” Campbell added.
